Lauren Alexander Augustine is the Associate Executive Director in the Division of Earth and Life Studies and Director of the Disasters Roundtable at the National Academies. In this dual role, she oversees the Disasters Roundtable and the development of the Program of Resilience and Extreme Events across the National Academies. For six years, she was the Country Director for the Academies’ African Science Academy Development Initiative that built capacity in science-policy advising in 10 African countries. She was recently appointed to the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Catastrophic Risks. Dr. Augustine received her B. S. in applied mathematics and systems engineering and her Masters degree in environmental planning and policy from the University of Virginia; she completed her Ph.D. from Harvard University in an interdisciplinary program that combined hydrology, geomorphology, and ecology.
