Blake McGhghy is Thriving Earth Exchange’s Program Manager for Community Leader Engagement. In this role, Blake leads Thriving Earth’s community application, recruitment, and onboarding processes to ensure that Thriving Earth Exchange continues to encourage and support communities of all types to work with AGU’s science and scientists.

Blake comes to the Thriving Earth Exchange from the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) where he served as their inaugural Civic Science Fellow, focused on relationship-building approaches for community engagement with climate. As a 2019 Boren Fellow, Blake studied Hindi and worked at the Center for Science and the Environment in New Delhi, India. Originally from Keokuk, Iowa, he is interested in building pathways for the scientific community to connect more meaningfully on science–society issues with audiences in rural areas of the United States.

Blake holds a master’s degree in social sciences from the University of Chicago, where he completed a thesis on public engagement with technology policy at the city level; and a bachelor’s degree in Social Studies with a focus on Science and Technology Studies from Harvard University.
