Zack Valdez serves as a Project Manager for AGU’s Thriving Earth Exchange, responsible for co-developing and managing community science projects from the initial scoping of an impactful project, to matching earth and space scientists, design and implementation, and sharing the solutions that can help other communities facing similar challenges. Zack also coordinates bridge support for the Resilience Dialogues.

Zack comes to AGU from Capitol Hill where he served as a Congressional Science and Technology Policy Fellow with the U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources committee to learn first-hand about policymaking and contribute his knowledge and analytical skills in preparation to develop and execute solutions to address societal challenges. Zack has been recognized as a Securing America’s Future Energy fellow and a member of the Capitol Area Association of Energy Economics while in D.C. He has gained over 10 years of experience in STEM outreach with groups such as the Pre-Engineering Program (PrEP) and Great Minds in STEM.  His B.S. degrees in Engineering and Physics at St. Mary’s University were followed by an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship for his Ph.D. research at Baylor University in Biofuel Sustainability. Zack was a Div. II college soccer athlete and coached at his graduate school, but now enjoys dancing and a good concert.
