Thriving Earth Exchange at AGU Fall Meeting
Science Impact: Supporting Thriving Communities
December 12-16, 2016
San Francisco, California
With approximately 24,000 attendees in 2015, AGU’s Fall Meeting is the largest Earth and space science meeting in the world. 2016 will mark Fall Meeting’s 49th year as the premiere place to present research; hear about the latest discoveries, trends, and challenges in the field; and network with colleagues that can enhance your career. Read more on the Fall Meeting website.
TEX is hosting a special series of activities at Fall Meeting: “Science Impact: Supporting Thriving Communities.” These activities will highlight the impact of projects that scientists and communities have worked on together, share successes and lessons learned, and inspire and launch new collaborative projects. It will include scientific sessions (see below), panels of community leaders, a networking reception, and a hands-on workshop to launch new community-science collaborations. Our goals are to:
- Show how communities and scientists are working together to produce impact and advance science,
- Provide the opportunity for existing partnerships to share ideas and best practices, and
- Inspire new scientists and communities to collaborate to solve their challenges.

Science Impact Sessions in the Scientific Program
These sessions provide a way for scientists and community leaders to share their experiences and insights as part of the formal scientific process of peer presentation and review. Click here to view the full program.
Scientific Sessions co-convened by TEX:
Making an Impact: Stories, Tips, and Lessons Learned from Collaborating with Communities
Collaborations between scientists and communities can benefit both. This session will explore ways to build effective, impactful collaborations that broaden participation and public support for science, solve local challenges, advance policy objectives, build resilience, and expand capacity to reduce pollution.

Scientific Sessions on impact-oriented science convened by Friends and Colleagues:
Towards more effective decision maker-scientist engagement
Climate change and related impacts to hydrological and ecological systems, pose serious risks to society – risks that require critical decisions be made now to avoid future system failures. This session will explore how to most effectively build bridges between scientists and decision makers to overcome cultural barriers to co-production of information contributing to resilience planning.
