Billy M. Williams serves as the Vice President, Ethics, Diversity and Inclusion at AGU. As a member of the senior team reporting to the Executive Director/CEO, the Director, Science serves as senior staff partner to the AGU Council and supports the council in implementing AGU’s science policy, agenda and work plan. The Director, Science is also responsible for facilitating working relationships and communicating scientific information and resources between and among AGU Council, sections and focus groups—including AGU students, committees, board members, AGU members, internal staff and external partners. He is also responsible for leading the development and implementation of AGU scientific society collaborations as a stronger voice for science, and for providing leadership in broader AGU talent pool initiatives, especially in the development of resources for assisting students and early-career scientists. Prior to joining AGU, Billy served as a Global R&D Director at the Dow Chemical Company, and as the Director of Dow’s External Science and Technology Programs. More recently he served as a senior program officer in the Division on Engineering and Physical Sciences at the National Academy of Sciences where he was responsible for assembling and leading committees of nationally prominent scientists, engineers, and scholars to address nationally critical issues, including serving as study director for the 2011 National Research Council report, National Security Implications of Climate Change for U.S. Naval Forces.
