Who We Are
Taking Neighborhood Health to Heart (TNH2H) is a community-based participatory research initiative that started in 2006 and involves five diverse, urban Denver neighborhoods (Park Hill, Northeast Park Hill, East Montclair, Northwest Aurora and Stapleton), the University of Colorado Denver, and the Stapleton Foundation.
TNH2H has conducted several health-related studies and community projects, actively involving hundreds of residents, students, and professionals from these neighborhoods. Some of the neighborhoods can be described as food deserts with limited access to healthy affordable foods. TNH2H research has helped address this and other neighborhood issues, including creating urban community gardens and changing city policies to allow the sale of produce from backyard gardens.
What We Aim To Achieve
TNH2H is looking for advice on what chemicals to test for in their soil to ensure that they can grow produce that is healthy to eat. The group has successfully run public health studies in their neighborhoods, and would like to repeat that success with a focus on soil quality. They would like to meet scientists with expertise in this area and learn about types of soil contaminants and nutrient levels to test, along with suggestions on methods.
